INSTALLATION

PEOPLE
Super Weird Studios 2024
Mixed-Media Art Installation
Introducing “People” – a mixed-media art installation facilitated by the Ted Democracy Initiative, Bellarmine University, and Super Weird Studios, initiated in 2024. This engaging installation aims to address important themes related to global democracy, community involvement, and the influence of art in political discourse. Participants will have diverse opportunities to interact with the four-part contemporary artwork, encouraging them to reevaluate conventional notions of who can participate and how participation occurs in various forums of discourse.
Voting Booth
Super Weird Studios, 2024
Spray-Painted 4' x 3' Canvas Turned Foldable "Voting" Booth
The "Voting Booth" experience highlights the connection between art and individual expression, emphasizing democratic values through personal engagement. This initiative aims to redefine the role of the voting booth as a symbol of political voice, extending beyond traditional governmental purposes to encourage broader participation. Each panel will showcase unique components featuring transferred and spray-painted illustrations, influenced by imagery submitted by local organizations. Constructed with wooden panels, the booth is designed for disassembly after installation to facilitate ongoing dialogue.
Community Reflected
Super Weird Studios, 2024
Mixed Media Furniture & Desk Spray-Painted and Stenciled
“Community Reflected” redefines the role of an art gallery by extending its mission beyond mere exhibition to foster community engagement. This initiative encourages critical reflection on the gallery's involvement in political and social matters, actively promoting participation among all stakeholders. The project features screen-printed furniture from the “People Installation” and an artist desk designed to facilitate dialogue between visitors and the artist. Participants are invited to submit their own media anonymously via a dedicated webpage, creating an interactive experience. Ultimately, “Community Reflected” aims to enhance engagement in processes that may seem unfamiliar or inaccessible, highlighting the potential for creating new pathways of interaction.
Use Your Voice
Super Weird Studios, 2024
Mixed Media Digital Art, Website, & Repository
“Use Your Voice” invites participants to explore the relationship between “people,” art, politics, and community through digital submissions. These contributions—imagery, audio, text, or video—are to be collected and displayed on a webpage, forming an ongoing repository designed to reflect diverse perspectives. A QR code to scan will be inside the installation booths instead of filling out traditional voting ballots. Scanning the QR code within the booth’s privacy symbolizes the act of “voting.” here. This approach is environmentally conscious by reducing waste and also acknowledges the constraints of scheduling, allowing for submissions beyond just the installation window. The QR code submissions can be made anonymously and will serve as a reflection of public consciousness, exploring themes of values and identity.
